space needle

Everything in context.  Just east of the Seattle center and its iconic space needle is, go figure, a residential neighborhood.  Some people have a train to listen to as it makes its way.  Of course, the sound of traffic is ever present in most large cities.  But, these folks have the presence of a needle in their midst.  One can only dream.

Typical summer day in Seattle.  Stereotypically, at least.  Sunny the day before, sunny the day after.  But it was on this day I was wandering around downtown, taking in the sights and sounds of this beautiful place.  Perfectly cloudy NW Washington.  Although I grew up just 90 miles north of here, I had never been up the Columbia tower building.  The largest building in town has an observation deck, enclosed of course, and it costs a few dollars to get in, but it’s great for sweeping views of Seattle and the Puget Sound.

I was roaming around Queen Anne Hill last summer and while talking to a few people here and there I was informed that this was the first day in weeks that Mt. Rainier had shown itself in its full glory.  Even when it’s not raining the mountain is often covered, at least partially, in clouds.  On this day, I just happened to be there for the full show.
