The Red Oak Victory is a World War Two naval supply ship.  It was built where it’s now docked in Richmond, California and I wandered in and through it last fall.  I’m not old enough to have participated in the war but it sure did take me back.  Hard to really imagine people actually doing all that; going to sea loaded with supplies for those actually doing battle in the Pacific, knowing you were a floating target.  At least we know they made it back.  Now it’s part of the “Rosie the Riveter” national monument in the Richmond shipyards.

We were heading back to the office north of the bridge a few weeks ago when luck would have it that a large air craft carrier was making its way out of the bay.  I wonder what it was doing?  In town for a show?  Was there a threat that the public didn’t know about?  Maybe making its way to sea for some war games.  Or simply heading back to San Diego to sit in the harbor and be “ready”.  Whatever it was it was a sight not often seen here.  I’m just glad it was all show.
