Rafting down the Colorado River thru the Grand Canyon is a monumental experience.  The water’s ice cold and often quite frisky.  The rock most often a rusty shade of red.  But, what’s most impressive is the size of the walls and how small I felt inside this immense cavern.  The timeless quiet, the constant flow of water, the movement of the raft.  Nothing compares to the feeling of being so small inside something so big.

Believe it or not, it snowed earlier in this day.  The sun felt so good.  Not hot.  Just wonderfully warm.  Melting away the chill of the morning.  I was walking along a trail after visiting one of the old mines in the park, continually awed by the beauty of the area.  The cold was lifting and the warmth penetrating my weary muscles.  Can you feel it?

A large park in the middle of the city.  Love it.  We need all the natural spaces we can get.  When I stayed in Tempe I decided to get up early and head on over to Papago Park in Phoenix.  A beautiful, expansive desert park.  I love watching the sun rise and found a place within the desert rocks that looked down on other parts of the park.  Sure like the perspective of height.

I was in Monterey.  It was a beautiful, relatively warm late winter day.  Lots of people, happily wandering around, exploring the best of what the area has to offer; an easy stroll along the Pacific, plenty of shops and restaurants, the aquarium.  When I had my fill of town, I drove west, up the road a couple of miles and bam!  A different world.  I wasn’t sure if the weather had just turned or I was just far enough out of town to make a difference.  No matter, the fog and mist were on me.  The ocean breeze was stiff.  It was suddenly cold.  I put my jacket on.  I took a few photos, but the mist was getting to my lens.  I called it a day.

Who doesn’t like a sunrise?  I think we all must.  I mean it’s life affirming; a new day showing itself; Earth waking up announcing itself, being itself while we humans get dressed, have coffee, get in cars, merge with other cars, go off to work somewhere.  And all the while, sunrise happens, rocks get wet, the ocean roars.

Such beauty in a small confined space.  Texture, light, color.  Antelope Canyon is not far from Marble Canyon where we entered the Colorado River for our rafting journey through the Grand Canyon.  What an example of the wonders of the natural world.  Time is the main ingredient needed.  At least mother nature has plenty of that.
