Night is a wonderful time to be hanging out at the hot tubs at Wilbur hot springs.  The air is cool, the tubs warm and the naturally green water pool is so refreshing after soaking in the tubs.  To go back and forth beneath a clear sky as the moon rises in the east… just a little bit of heaven on Earth.

After such an incredible time in the South African bush and rural areas, driving into Johannesburg was somehow incongruous; until we arrived at our lodging destination, the wonderful and beautiful “Room with a View”.  Filled with art and antiques with an enticing architectural design it was a haven of beauty and made the journey back into civilization doable.

I love wandering around Las Vegas.  Every twist and turn can take you into another setting of city art, or into a completely different hotel or scene than the one just left behind.  When I rolled into town on this day I pulled into the first parking lot I found and just started walking.  I found my way into the Mandalay Bay and after some time inside I found myself at the pool, alone.  Though a nice enough day, it was too cold in February for any swimming around.  The late afternoon sun was coming through just perfect so I set up in silence and fired away.

Wilbur is for those of us who like slowwww….. and soothing, healing, natural hot mineral springs.  And who like seclusion and the natural world and who aren’t offended by naked bodies and who are willing to allow themselves to slow down.  That alone seems to be an art in today’s chaotically fast pace.  For some, just the attempt at slowing down and being without computer/TV/cell phone can bring up a deep anxiety, let alone actually coming to some kind of peace over a few days of slow and quiet.  Yes, Wilbur is purposefully slow and quiet, with a large well stocked communal kitchen where you can prepare your own nourishing meals.  And if that meal is after a soothing, calming soak in the hot tubs, interspersed by a dip/swim in the cool, naturally green pool that waits just outside the tubs, and if it’s dark, and the stars are out….  Well, you’ll just have to try it yourself.
