This is not a very often seen view. It was taken from behind which is usually thought of as the front. But it does show what an incredibly perfect place this would have been to build a series of buildings that would be protected by the natural topography. Imagine trying to scale the rock walls in ancient times where warfare was much simpler. Seems almost impossible. Now, at least in this image, the buildings on top, including the infamous Parthenon, are being reconstructed for all us tourists to gawk over and reminisce about. Also, modern Athens now sprawls all around the massive ancient citadel. I wonder if any of these buildings will be around thousands of years hence, if they’d even be worth reconstructing?
