One of the features I like best about the South are the swamps; wet, moist, mossy, thick, green, sometimes a bit eerie.  It’s probably due to the fact that they’re not found in the west and thus they’re different, unique.  Whatever the reason, the ones we went to in South Carolina and Georgia were great; perfect for walking and finding photo ops.  This one is at Magnolia Plantation near Charleston, South Carolina.

The south.  Oozing with humidity; that thick moist air that hangs on your body like a sticky film.  I love visiting it.  Glad I live in the west.  The Wormsloe plantations “driveway” has that wet, humid feel to it.  It runs for over a mile and is lined with 100+ year old oak trees covered with spanish moss.  Of course we drove it with a car.  I could imagine riding a horse along here; slowly, in the fading light, with the crickets and the humidity doing their thing.
