I love the color and character of the older docks, holding their sea warn buildings out of the salt water.  Walking the shore trail in Monterey provides a lot of an older ocean front scene.  It’s easy to find beauty to frame inside a viewfinder.  Just walk, look and dream.

Not the TV show.  It’s this couple sitting comfortably on their bench looking out over Monterey Bay.  Driving out past the old town center you come to a wonderful little park, sitting along the bay.  A sweet little spot to watch the waves and people; to meet friends and catch up on one another’s lives; to sit with your partner, just enjoying one of life’s vistas.

What?  Jellyfish?  Magical?  Remotely interesting?  Jellyfish are mundane, boring, weak.  To be a jellyfish means you’re a wimp with no backbone.  But, maybe, just maybe, I wouldn’t mind being associated with this incredible creature.  It seems to come with some depth and color and complexity; all wonderful traits.  It looks capable of intelligence.  I could sure use some of that.  Magic?  Maybe so.

I was in Monterey.  It was a beautiful, relatively warm late winter day.  Lots of people, happily wandering around, exploring the best of what the area has to offer; an easy stroll along the Pacific, plenty of shops and restaurants, the aquarium.  When I had my fill of town, I drove west, up the road a couple of miles and bam!  A different world.  I wasn’t sure if the weather had just turned or I was just far enough out of town to make a difference.  No matter, the fog and mist were on me.  The ocean breeze was stiff.  It was suddenly cold.  I put my jacket on.  I took a few photos, but the mist was getting to my lens.  I called it a day.

Monterey Bay, that is; which is part of the Pacific Ocean; which Monterey, California butts up against.  Wonderful walking town with a well-used urban trail that runs for quite a long way along the shore.  People, places to eat and shop, and, of course, the ever present big blue Pacific.  Whether calm or crashing, it lends its energy and presence to the land.  The life and beauty it brings, truly a blessing.

Wow!  Wandering along the Monterey Bay Coastal Trail is an incredible way to intimately commune with almost everything Monterey has to offer; beaches, the pacific ocean, shops and restaurants, people.  It was warm and beautiful when I started out, but being the beginning of March and right on the Pacific Ocean, the fog started rolling in about mid afternoon.  Though build in the 1980’s, the Monterey Bay Aquarium  was designed to replicate the old cannery’s that were busy here in earlier times.  By the time I got to the backside of the building , there was a wonderfully eerie ominousness trying to make its way inland, giving it that real old world feel.
