I know it’s odd, but the San Francisco Yacht Club is not even in San Francisco.  It’s actually across the bay in tiny Belvedere.  I was strolling by one evening as the sun was setting and although there was no light on the boats of the marina I noticed a perfect frame of color and light set against the still approaching darkness that was enveloping the harbor.  It’s the opposite of what I usually look for.  Maybe that’s what drew me in.

Leaving work on my way out to a crowded freeway, I always pass this spot on the bay.  Across from Sausalito it looks out onto the tips of the Golden Gate Bridge and just a bit south, onto San Francisco itself.  This evening, though, the fog had settled in.  The infamous Bay Area fog, getting sucked into the Gate and the City by the warmer air inland.  Yes, it makes everything cooler, colder even, but it sure makes for a great subject matter.

I was on the lagoon at my mother-in-laws.  It’s always beautiful there.  On this particular evening, though, there was this softness to the air that isn’t always there.  The sun was already down over the Island though it was still quite light out.  The wind was dying down and the water becoming calm.  I don’t always have my camera here but am glad I did this time.  In fact I probably miss more shots than I get because of that and I rarely use my phone camera.  Do you always have your camera?  Do you have a camera other than your phone?

What a great place to walk!  In the hills above Tiburon, California in Marin county is a large open space with trails and 360 degree views that won’t quit.  Depending on where you walk, there’s a different vantage point; of the golden gate, San Francisco, the east bay.  It’s city planning at its best as it could easily be covered with large, estate homes.  But we need great places to walk or take photos!  Thank you Marin county.

Old St. Hilary’s sits atop a hill overlooking Tiburon across the bay from San Francisco.  Built in 1888 it’s one of the precious icon’s of Marin Co.  From this angle you can catch a glimpse of Angel Island, Alcatraz and the skyline of San Francisco.  I’ve posted 2 very different depictions here on 2 different days.  The first is on a day where the air is pretty clear with everything in sharp relief.  The second was taken in the early morning with bright sunlight and a bit of dwindling fog, making for a more muted scene.  Which one do you like best?
