Arriving at our camp at Mapungubwe was exhilarating. The landscape is moon-like, the ground and rock the same color of golden red, and to top it off, there’s the over-lighting presence of the giant baobab trees with trunks seemingly as thick as the the tree is tall. I would have loved to take a long fading-light walk, but because of the large amounts of elephant dung and tracks and droppings of other unknown animals, we were strongly advised against wandering too far. The next morning I awoke before dawn to take a few photos. Though the various animal roars I heard were awesome to hear, they had me staying pretty close to home.
