I wonder who lived here.  I’m always wondering about the subjects I find myself shooting.  There’s such an abundance of remnants of things that were once used in a very different way than they are now.  I suppose it can simply be idle chatter of the mind; wistful fantasies played out amidst present day realities.  But, I like my fantasies.  There aren’t many who would venture building a house like this these days.  No vineyards.  No crops of any kind near any more.  This sits in the middle of Magnolia Plantation near Charleston, South Carolina.  I wonder what they planted.  I wonder who lived here.

I was wandering the bayou country of Louisiana.  I forget which river this is, though I think it’s the Atchafalaya.  It’s quite exciting driving around the levee roads, seeing what’s over the break, just taking in everything that’s there.  I wonder who lives here and what their story is to have such a pristine place over the river?  Did they build it themselves?  Was it once a small river cabin used just for weekend fishing trips?  I wonder such things.  Life stories are always so interesting and individual.

Fall is fast approaching which reminds me that the grape harvest is happening around here.  So I think of wine and then I remember the Frey house.  It’s part of a biodynamic winery up in Mendocino county somewhere in the middle of nowhere.  It’s family run and this house is part of what is possible to rent for your next big event.  It’s a fun place.  Drink up.

Mostly I think of Arizona and the Southwest as dry, desert, hot, penetrating clear blue skies.  I was pleasantly surprised when I was there this January.  There were thick stormy looking clouds and even some rain.  Quite lovely!  The old Rosson house in downtown Phoenix blends in well with the ominousness of the sky.

I’m not into Halloween as much as I used to be.  But I do like spooky stuff.  Like fog.  Fog is spooky.  And not limited to Halloween.  Where I live fog is a common occurrence.  But fog around this time of year when it’s draped over and around a dark spooky house… now that’s something I can appreciate.  This one lives up in Bellingham, WA.

There’s nothing like having a splash of color in a city.  San Francisco is already quite a colorful one, but when it’s added to out-of-the-way neighborhoods you know you’re in a great town.  This photo was an afterthought as I was searching for high spots to catch  the larger panoramic view of the city and its environs.  In so many cities; in so many places, there are so many things to see.  It reminds me to keep my eyes open and notice what’s there.  There’s so much beauty in our world.  I like being reminded of that.  The simple and unsensational.  It’s always right in front of me if I slow down and have the eyes to see.
