It was warm out and I wanted to come down out of the hills and see what the Hollywood Forever Cemetery had to offer.  I don’t know anyone there but it did not disappoint.  We wandered around for a short while, being on a timer with relatives.  At the end, I looked up and voila; the Hollywood sign.

Thirst quenching.  Fresh.  Fun.  It’s all part of wandering around the colorful Hollywood farmers market street fair.  Yes, there are real live everyday events happening in Hollywood.  Not all glitz and glamour.  Fresh and organic.  Thirst quenching.  It’s just all part of everything in Hollywood.

I drove up to the end of the road and parked.  I was intending to make it up to the infamous Hollywood Sign, at least most of the way, but it was getting dark and I kept getting distracted by the incredible views of Los Angeles and all the different colors and angles with every step I took.  And then I saw it!  As it was making its way out of the frame, I saw it.  Clearly something alien, and just cruising right over the heart of one of the largest cities in the world!  Do you see it?  There, on the right side of the frame.  Do you believe it?

Have you ever been up close to the infamous Hollywood sign?  I’ve seen it many times on visits to the LA area as well as many more times on the screen.  But, this is the first time I got up so close.  And whereas other photos I took on this little beauty of a hike show more of a close-up of the sign, I happen to like this one.  I mean, who doesn’t love the night sky?  I sure do.  I started up the trail with the sun still up, but I wandered around a bit and took my time.  Eventually, the sun set and the stars started showing themselves.  Orion and Venus became prominent.  Quiet and Hollywood don’t often go together, but they sure did here on this night.

Are you one of those people who can take a word or phrase and immediately write a meaningful and personal poem about it?  I’m sure not.  I need to take it in for a bit, contemplate, let the feeling and thoughts come in and then take some interpretive time to form them into words in the right order so that they actually mean something.  Not the Poem Lady.  She sits in her chair at the Hollywood street fair/farmers market with her old-style portable typewriter.  She hears your content request and, seemingly instantaneously, the words enter somewhere, exiting through her deft finger tips and out onto a small sheet of paper.  You’ve given her the subject, she delivers your message for the day, you pay her what you will.  A circular symbiosis of the soul.
