I wonder what it’s like.  Living in a relatively small space out in the public view.  Do they both live there?  Do they move from place to place or stay in the one spot?  They look quite relaxed.  Just reading the newspaper in the warm sunshine.  Would you call this living the good life?  A bit too small and public for me.  I’ve gotten used to more space around me.  I wouldn’t mind riding around on the canals, though, exploring the sights and sounds of Amsterdam on a private boat.  I think a week sounds about right.

A bit of local history in a city that is timeless.  We were staying fairly close to Rembrandt Square so getting here was easy.  Just another enchanting part of a remarkable city, perfect for getting around in.

Not me, but someone.  Canals are just part of the topography in Amsterdam.  Such a beautiful city, too.  It’s Europe.  It’s old.  At least compared to the western U.S.  The architecture is old and spectacular.  I imagine this particular speed boat demon racing to his favorite breakfast eatery.  Or, maybe he’s a delivery man, off to deliver his wares.  Whatever he’s doing, there isn’t much traffic here on the canal.  Of course it’s never like a freeway.  There always seems to be a relative ease tooling around on an Amsterdamian canal.

So, are these flags there to warn low flying aircraft?  A warning to canal boats that are too big?  Are they simple prayer flags, put up by the locals to bless their little section of canal heaven?  Whatever they’re for, they, along with everything else in and over, just adds to the character of the canals of Amsterdam.
