I’ve never spent much time on the Atlantic, but I do remember many times of playing on a Pacific beach.  There’s a high degree of freedom that comes with playing on the beach right next to the ocean.  Maybe it’s all those negative ions coming from the ocean breeze sweeping across the water.  Maybe it’s the salt mixing with water and sand.  Maybe it’s that the parents are willing to just let kids play as the adults sit on the sand or a lounge chair and read.  To each their own.  I’ll take that feeling of freedom, however it happens to come.

I guess when you’re ready to sun bathe it doesn’t matter if the sun is really out.  At least these people don’t.  Maybe they’re guests of a resort with all the colored umbrellas and just want to spend time on a beach.  Maybe they’ve just come all the way here to Hilton Head, South Carolina, rented an umbrella and are going to be here no matter what.  For whatever reason, is it ever not a day to be sitting on a beach on the Atlantic Ocean whenever you can?

My sisters and I were exploring the affluence of Hilton Head Island in South Carolina and putting our toes in the Atlantic.  For me this gets a bit mundane.  I want to hike/walk and explore the topography.  So, we drove toward the mainland, crossed a bridge and stopped on Pinckney Island, lying between Hilton Head and the mainland.  Hey!  It’s a wildlife refuge!  There are trails to walk.  I was happy.

After spending much of the day exploring Hilton Head Island, we settled in for a nice meal at one of the local restaurants.  I don’t remember what I had, but I’m pretty sure I ordered some kind of seafood.  Just so happens I spotted these fishing boats tied up at one the docks.  So, I wandered outside and positioned myself at an angle directly into the sun.  With the sun rapidly setting, the color of the sky was increasing.  It was just another beautiful day in the south.

I just thought it would be nice to have a little color on what is a cool foggy morning here in the middle of winter.  It comes from Hilton Head Island in South Carolina in the late summer.  Mossy and humid and a pristinely landscaped garden.
