For a golfer, there’s nothing quite so spectacular as golfing in Ireland.  I mean Wow!  The terrain is difficult and spectacular, the people friendly, the music alluring and there’s fresh Guinness.  And did I mention the golf?  It’s the best ever.  Here we’re at the infamous Ballybunion in County Kerry.

And you thought golfing didn’t include exercise.  Walking the Old Macdonald course at the Bandon Dunes complex along the Oregon coast sure does.  We were lucky there was no wind this day or it would’ve been tougher.  But, walking through the barren dunesland of this golf course, named for the famous architect C.B Macdonald, is a real treat.  The sloping hills, the gorse, sand and the ever present Pacific Ocean just over the ridge.  This is no barnyard stroll.

There’s nothing like golf at the Bandon Dunes golf complex on the southern Oregon coast.  It now consists of 4 championship courses and one par 3 course with an amazing practice facility.  But the real treat is going there with a bunch of friends, taking it all in, enjoying the golf and camaraderie.  I snuck away one evening as the sun was going down and I had too much to drink and wandered around the course with my camera and tripod.  No body else around.  Just me and the golf course, wind and ocean.

Yes, I was on the golf course, playing golf, when I took this shot.  But, for me the image is not so much about golf as it is the mountains, and the desert and the palm trees and the dappled sun light.  In other words, just being this kind of beautiful environment is the reference point.  The desert; a wonderful place to be in the winter.

No, this isn’t Scotland or Ireland.  Bandon Dunes is an incredible golf complex on the southern Oregon coast.  Built on top of the sand dunes that proliferate this part of the coastline, it is a pristine and jaw-dropping place for those who enjoy the sport.  I was there in mid February with 7 others.  After one of our rounds I grabbed my tripod and camera and snuck away from all the 19th hole activity to wander the course at sunset.  Wow!  Just me and an empty golf course and the roar of the Pacific Ocean.  The Oregon coast in mid February could easily be blowing and raining… but here on the 6th hole was a gentle breeze and a clear sky.

Hopefully I’m not boring you too much with this, but golf is one of my hobbies that I quite like.  And, at least for me, it can be a great venue for photography as well.  If you forget about the game of golf for a second and just focus on the course itself and the people playing then you often have a park-like setting with a ready-made action figure.  This particular golf course is part of the world renowned Bandon Dunes golf complex of 4 courses near Bandon, Oregon.  The golf, and the views, can’t get any better!
