Setting up a tripod inside the casino was a bit tricky.  As soon as I was spotted I was told No!  Can’t take photos of people gambling.  Don’t want to incriminate anyone.  No worries.  I managed to get off a few shots inside to no ones harm.

Might as well be Italy when visiting the Venetian.  Vegas is so good at creating the adult theme park, complete with all the effects and color and glamour.  The Venetian is a lot of fun, even when trying to hide from the tripod cops.

It was fun exploring the Mandarin Oriental hotel in Vegas.  It’s fairly new, lush, exotic.  What else would it be.  It’s Las Vegas.  Here, I thought I’d put my camera to the test in trying to capture both scenes presented in one shot, outside and inside at night, when glass glare is at it’s finest.  Just the opportunity to look around the hotel was good enough for me.

I was wandering around at night, taking in the sights and color and had just watched the fireworks go off in the pools here at the Mirage.  I waited for all the people to scatter and then noticed the falls.  Nature’s imitation ala Las Vegas.  Nothing like it.

This is where I stayed; the Flamingo Hotel on the Strip.  A cheap and convenient place right in the middle of the art museum action known as the Las Vegas Strip.  I drove over from Death Valley, the complete opposite of everything that Vegas is about.  But, truth be known, I really like Las Vegas.  It’s so visual.  There’s always something that captures the eye.  It made for a very diverse and thoroughly enjoyable week of wandering around the west.

I’m not really sure what that room is, but it sure could be a high rollers room.  It’s so inviting with the scantily clad porcelain women holding up their palm fronds, urging you to go through and happily leave your large sums of money behind; while having fun and enjoying yourself, of course.  Ah, Las Vegas.  Nothing like it.  The glamour, the glitz, the pomp.  It’s all here at Caesars Palace.  And no, I did not go in and leave large sums of money behind.  I was having too much fun for that.

Of course you know I love color.  The richer the better.  When I walked into the Wynn hotel in Las Vegas I felt like a kid in a candy store!  I mean glitz and glitter and glamour and color everywhere my eyes could roam.  I just stood close to the entry door, set my tripod and camera and tried to stay away from anyone official who might notice and tell me that no tripods are allowed.  (I did get that at the Venetian).  Well, no problem!  Vegas seems to have so much substance for a place known for being so shallow.  A cover up?  Or just someplace where the business makes so much money they can afford the enticements?  I don’t gamble, but I do love the enticements. wynn-entry-2-1

I love wandering around Las Vegas.  Every twist and turn can take you into another setting of city art, or into a completely different hotel or scene than the one just left behind.  When I rolled into town on this day I pulled into the first parking lot I found and just started walking.  I found my way into the Mandalay Bay and after some time inside I found myself at the pool, alone.  Though a nice enough day, it was too cold in February for any swimming around.  The late afternoon sun was coming through just perfect so I set up in silence and fired away.

I know Las Vegas is quite polarizing.  It’s known as sin city by many; gaudy, too bright, corrupt, etc.  Yet, it’s such a desired destination by so many others.  Whether for gambling or live entertainment or something else it attracts huge crowds of people.  So, are these adult theme parks sacrilege or modern contemporary art?  I didn’t spend a dime on gambling but I sure appreciated the architecture.  What a visual blast!
