Believe it or not this was taken in the Arizona desert at White Tanks Park just west of Phoenix.  I love cloudy days in the desert.  Much cooler even when it’s winter.  I wasn’t able to spend a lot of time here, but the desert environment is invigorating no matter what the circumstance.

I was driving west along I-10 last winter, heading back to the Coachella Valley from Phoenix.  It was actually raining out!  It was fresh and different.  Nothing like the desert can be with its heat and dry endless blue sky.  I pulled off to the side of the road just to enjoy the scene.  No hurry.  Don’t have to be somewhere.  There’s so much life and beauty around, even in the depths of winter gloom.

I love cactus!  Especially the saguaro.  They’re just so big and stately and, for me at least, different.  I don’t get to this part of the desert very often so they’re always a thrill to see and be around.  It was quite overcast when I was there this winter and I had the unfortunate incident of having my camera bag with full memory chip stolen so I feel somewhat incomplete in my relationship to the saguaro cactus.  Never-the-less I enjoyed my time with these huge forms before the rains came, wandering around in the White Tanks area just west of Phoenix.
