Mixed Nuts

Feb 162016

I was happily sitting in a chair soaking in some of the suns warmth and following my daughters American bulldogs antics out of the corner of my eye.  Then, I noticed her stand up against the neighbors deck ledge and curiously keep looking as the neighbor dog lifted its leg and did his thing.  No barking or sound of any kind.  Just using what she could to act out her peeping tom tendency.  Funny what some dogs will do to get a peek at the neighbors package.

It’s a new year.  The road is clear but there’s a bend we can’t see beyond.  How do we navigate the road ahead that is already moving swiftly?  Where are we going?  Where do we want to wind up?  So many questions.  I can see some of the general landscape in the distance but the details are unknown and just a bit mysterious.  It’s up to me to drive my life forward.  Where am I going?  Where are you going?

This shot reminds me of yesterday’s Yom Kippur.  The blessing of new life and the release that comes from forgiveness.  May we all have a great life blessed with awe and joy and good will.

All Stop.  That’s what the captain said.  With the enemy fleet up ahead we don’t want to be a floating target.  Hopefully they’re too engaged to see us so we’ll just sit here for a while and wait.  At least that could be the scene.  I wandered around this old ship one day and played with all kinds of scenarios in my mind.  Red Oak Victory was actually a cargo ship that supplied war ships in the Pacific during world war two.  The romance of being on it in reality is only in the movies, I think.

A campground resort closed for the season.  I imagine it being a hundred years ago.  Wouldn’t be closed then.  It would be alive and lived in, fire wood piling up in preparation for the coming winter cold.  After all, it’s over 7800 feet in elevation at Lundy Lake on the eastern side of the Sierra mountains in California and nights were cold in mid October.  There in the fall, I was seeking out the colors of the season when I happened across the closed camping resort.  I stayed a while to soak up the beauty and quiet ambiance.

Everybody loves a clown, and a circus.  This small, traveling troupe came through the area a summer ago.  It’s the kind of event that’s truly entertaining and you can get right up close and really see everything and meet the performers after the show.  It harkens back to my image of vaudeville with its small-town personal touch.  Not a bad seat in the house.

I suppose he could  be anywhere.  Late at night, one train passing while he waits for the one that will get him to wherever it is he’s going.  I often wonder; is he just getting off work and heading home?  Off to see his lover?  Been out on the town?  Another moment in time, probably not even marked by the subject himself who’s probably lost in thought, waiting yet again.  Where is he?  Do you know?

Many people love boots, but I’ve never seen more boot shops than in Texas.  Texas loves boots.  Black boots, white boots, colored boots, all boots.  And Austin loves its University.  UT Longhorn boots are available too.  I love boots too.  They make a good subject for a few photographic images.
