We arrived at the village in late afternoon.  Some of us met with one of the elder shamans and had a form of life reading from her.  Others waited by the fire for our dinner to be readied.  After a beautiful meal with all the local fare we gathered outside by the fire again.  The dancers formed a line in front with the singers and drummers behind them offering sounds of encouragement.  It was an enchanting, mesmerizing night.

It’s spring again!  That yearly marking point and promise of warmer days to come.  At least here in what we call the northern parts of Earth.  Various trees are beginning to flower here in California.  The rain now giving way to blue skies and the suns warmth.  I’m eating plenty of winter’s harvest of oranges now and will patiently wait for the magic of the fruit trees blossoms turning into their juicy offspring of fully developed fruits.

No water here, but if oasis means something surrounded by sand dunes, then I think this clump of trees would qualify.  I love going to the desert in the winter.  It’s certainly much cooler and there’s at least a chance of some kind of interesting weather.  There’s so much to explore in Death Valley and one of my favorite attractions are the large sand dunes.  It’s just so hard to find large rolling soft sand dunes in the US.  Got to take advantage of the area, walk up and down, feel the leg muscles work to keep up with the spillage of sand when climbing to the top.  I’m heading to the top.

So many street vendors are loud and aggressive in hope of selling their wares.  Not this old timer.  He was always calm and composed.  I watched him from across the street for some time while sipping on Egyptian coffee.  The coffee here is dark and muddy and good, but that’s another story.  In the street’s of Aswan, there wasn’t a more composed man than this one.

I knew this area of the county was having a bit of difficulty with all the rain.  I decided to pack up the camera and see what I could see.  Despite some of the environmental concerns hovering over vineyards, I still like looking at them.  Of course they’re dormant in the winter so not quite as pleasing to look at.  But, in these conditions they might be interesting.  Sure enough, the Russian River had risen enough to spread some of her liquid gold onto the surrounding landscape.  Beautiful.
