Come back soon, if you dare.  The ominence of art.  Hovering above the gateway into and out of Chinatown bordering downtown Los Angeles, the dragons beg of intrigue.  I’m certainly struck by them.  Is there some kind of spell that’s lifted when leaving?  Will I remember my night there?  Will I be drawn to come back, again and again, spending hard earned money within its bounds?  An enticing lure or warning symbol?  Maybe the presence of city hall will save me.  Maybe I’ll ask Jet Li for a safe escort out.

After the storm the real beauty begins.  In that respect I’m somewhat of a storm chaser.  The passing of the weather system and break up of the clouds so often brings out the best of the subject matter at hand.  Here, I was up visiting my dad and ended up running out of the house and down to the water.  It’s so much fun to stand around outside in quiet locales, just watching the sky go through its moods.

Mid summer.  That time of year when the high elevations in the mountains start opening up with many snowless trails.  I can smell the pines now.  Feel the quiet.  Alas, I’ll have to wait another year to get up there.  A little tick bite has curtailed my hiking and exploration life.  Rae lakes in Kings Canyon, high in the Sierra, is always a wonderful destination.  Here, Jo Anne is doing her best impression of high a wire artist to cross the creek as we head out.  One of the lakes and the peak of Painted Lady make for an enticing reminder to come back again.

I was innocently strolling along Savannah’s waterfront early one morning when I spotted a large 3-masted sailing ship.  Beautiful boat, if a boat is what it’s called.  Seemed built in the “old” style, the way ships used to be made, when sailing was the way people and nations navigated large distances.  It was obviously a newer version of the old, but grand in style in every way.  Anyway, the closer I got, the more I realized much of the crew hanging out on the rigging of one of the large masts.  Odd maybe, but quite interesting.  A Danish teaching vessel filled with it’s young crew.

I wonder what goes on down there.  It couldn’t be too secret as you can see the area from up above.  But, anything going on below ground level having to do with government has got to be suspect.  Doesn’t it?  Maybe I just have an overactive imagination or have seen too many secret agent movies.  Or maybe I’m innately suspicious of the workings of government.  Whatever the case, I do know I enjoy walking around the city at night.
