It was warm out and I wanted to come down out of the hills and see what the Hollywood Forever Cemetery had to offer.  I don’t know anyone there but it did not disappoint.  We wandered around for a short while, being on a timer with relatives.  At the end, I looked up and voila; the Hollywood sign.

I was wandering around at night, taking in the sights and color and had just watched the fireworks go off in the pools here at the Mirage.  I waited for all the people to scatter and then noticed the falls.  Nature’s imitation ala Las Vegas.  Nothing like it.

Much of the beauty of the Sierra mountains in fall is its accessibility.  Of course I love to traipse around the woods and countryside, but to those who don’t, just taking a drive along highway 395 that skirts the eastern side of this incredible mountain range will work out just fine.  In fact, no matter what season, it’s a great choice for a scenic getaway.  This is Conway Summit, just north of the Mono Lake overlook and town of Lee Vining, gateway to the eastern entrance to majestic Yosemite.

I was walking through the quaint little neighborhood streets of the faubourg marigny in New Orleans.  As I was starting to get into more of the residential section I spotted this restaurant and couple sitting outside, alone.  Eating a meal, having a drink, or just taking a load off their feet?  Don’t know.  But the whole scene grabbed me and pulled me in.  I quickly set up my tripod and tried not to disturb them.  It was their moment, not mine.  The night can bring in its own rewards for those who’s eyes are open.

Don’t you just wonder where they’re going?  I do.  We slowed down a bit for us to say hi but not long enough to have a conversation.  Do they have animal feed?  Some sort of material for housing or a roof?  Is it just compost or garbage hacked away to make space for growing something else?  Whatever it’s for, they sure live a different and more timeless life than I do.  Hard in its own way, but rather nostalgic in one of my more contemplative moods.

This shot reminds me of yesterday’s Yom Kippur.  The blessing of new life and the release that comes from forgiveness.  May we all have a great life blessed with awe and joy and good will.
