The market area of Aswan is old and disheveled.  Bricks have fallen off old buildings.  Streets are mostly dirt.  But it does bustle with people and commerce and life.  Most necessary items can be bought there; as well as many trinkets and unnecessary things.  But, one thing comes without a price.  And that is friendship and camaraderie and lively conversation.  I wonder what they’re talking about.

These guys are the real thing.  No need to go to the Sahara.  It’s possible to wander for hours if you have the urge without the added fret of getting hopelessly lost.  Head west too far and you’ll run into the Pacific Ocean.  Head east too far and there’s Highway 1.  It’s just so quiet and seemingly remote when walking around if you enter at the right place.  Sometimes all that’s heard is the distant sound of the ocean.  What’s left is the exercise of walking in the sand.  Hard work but worth it.

I’d already gone through the rapids in the smaller whitewater raft.  After getting through, we stopped in the calmer water and watched and waited for everyone else to get through.  Quickly, I got my camera out of its waterproof box and steadied myself as best I could while bobbing around on the flowing Colorado River, selected a fast shutter speed and caught the big oar boat heading our way.  They sure looked like they were having fun!

Two posts in a row of a music theme.  Guess you can tell I like music.  Here, we were walking around in Copenhagen, exploring the various sights when I began to hear music.  I moved towards it, opened up the church door and much to my delight a beautiful little orchestra was in the middle of its rehearsal.  What an impressive venue to go along with precision in music.  I could have stayed all night, but we went back to our wandering.

I know the space needle takes the prize as far as Seattle icons go, but the EMP building at the Seattle Center gets my vote.  It’s newer and much shorter though so just doesn’t get the press or views that the needle does.  This building has so many nooks and crannies it’s not hard to find a good angle that reframes the eye.  And speaking of eye, do you see it?

Believe it or not, it snowed earlier in this day.  The sun felt so good.  Not hot.  Just wonderfully warm.  Melting away the chill of the morning.  I was walking along a trail after visiting one of the old mines in the park, continually awed by the beauty of the area.  The cold was lifting and the warmth penetrating my weary muscles.  Can you feel it?

New Orleans is a great place to wander around and just take in the atmosphere.  It was late and I was quite tired, but still had enough energy to keep wandering and enjoy what I was doing.  Not trying to get somewhere is always the best way to go for me.  I was on my way to my bed but not hurrying.  I turned up Iberville St. toward Bourdon and this simple scene with its signage popped out at me.  I was sweaty but happy.

It was a rather gloomy evening.  In a trip down the west coast, I stopped here in sleepy Crescent City in order to be in the redwoods during the light the next day.  I wanted to get out and roam around the town, but it was just so foggy and cold.  Mid summer too.  So, I went out to a waterfront park and spied this remote looking peninsula and its funky lighthouse structure.  I don’t even know if a wayward ship could even have spotted it and its warning.  No matter, for this landlubber at least, it makes for a great photo subject.

Unfortunately, I won’t be able to get up into the mountains this year, but at least I can fantasize and remember great spots.  Peter Pande lake, high in the Sierras is one such place.  We went a bit out of our way to get here and spent just 2 nights, but oh what a place it is.  Quiet and peaceful, even in mid summer, we ran into only one other person.  Truly a gorgeous place.

I’d never been down to St. Augustine so as long as I was in Savannah and so close, I went.  As always, it was fun exploring this part of the world.  Luckily for me it was a bit stormy while there.  The storm seemed to hang just west of the city but I saw this rain squall just as I was checking out the bridge of lions that spans the bay.
