Leaving work on my way out to a crowded freeway, I always pass this spot on the bay.  Across from Sausalito it looks out onto the tips of the Golden Gate Bridge and just a bit south, onto San Francisco itself.  This evening, though, the fog had settled in.  The infamous Bay Area fog, getting sucked into the Gate and the City by the warmer air inland.  Yes, it makes everything cooler, colder even, but it sure makes for a great subject matter.

I guess when you’re ready to sun bathe it doesn’t matter if the sun is really out.  At least these people don’t.  Maybe they’re guests of a resort with all the colored umbrellas and just want to spend time on a beach.  Maybe they’ve just come all the way here to Hilton Head, South Carolina, rented an umbrella and are going to be here no matter what.  For whatever reason, is it ever not a day to be sitting on a beach on the Atlantic Ocean whenever you can?

It was quite a day.  We ferried across the Nile from Luxor, then rode in vans to the temple in the Valley of the Kings.  A grand spectacle  After spending time in and around the temple itself, along with some others, of course, I wanted to do a bit of wandering.  There was a trail leading up into the rocky hillside above the temple grounds.  Perfect.  I love a heightened perspective.  If not with a group I could have wandered for hours around here.  It was so moving some of us chose to come back at dawn the next day.

Ah.  The great New Orleans at night.  I was wandering around, sweating, carrying my camera and tripod, not really caring how I’m perceived.  I took a spot across the street from the square up some steps where I could get a better perspective.  Then a tall young man approached me and wanted to polish me running shoes.  Of course he said he’d do it free of charge.  I talked with him a while then finally sent him away and told him I was working.  Can’t beat the locals or the city of New Orleans!jackson-square-night-3Purchase a print or digital download of this photo by clicking on the image.

The Thomas Jefferson memorial, that is.  It sits in a nice little spot near the Potomac River and its tidal basin.  Just wandering down by the river I decided to roam around the memorial and soak in the ambiance and history.  I was there in the early part of the day and there were few other people there and I was able to amble around unencumbered with only my thoughts and camera.  After spending the better part of an hour in the area, I wandered away to other parts of the mall.

Thirst quenching.  Fresh.  Fun.  It’s all part of wandering around the colorful Hollywood farmers market street fair.  Yes, there are real live everyday events happening in Hollywood.  Not all glitz and glamour.  Fresh and organic.  Thirst quenching.  It’s just all part of everything in Hollywood.

All Stop.  That’s what the captain said.  With the enemy fleet up ahead we don’t want to be a floating target.  Hopefully they’re too engaged to see us so we’ll just sit here for a while and wait.  At least that could be the scene.  I wandered around this old ship one day and played with all kinds of scenarios in my mind.  Red Oak Victory was actually a cargo ship that supplied war ships in the Pacific during world war two.  The romance of being on it in reality is only in the movies, I think.

I spied this statue of naked women when wandering around the city.  Copenhagen is so clean and interesting.  Elegantly artistic.  Art and statues everywhere.  Easy, friendly and a joy to walk around.  I don’t exactly remember what these 2 women represent but I sure like the statue.

I was on the lagoon at my mother-in-laws.  It’s always beautiful there.  On this particular evening, though, there was this softness to the air that isn’t always there.  The sun was already down over the Island though it was still quite light out.  The wind was dying down and the water becoming calm.  I don’t always have my camera here but am glad I did this time.  In fact I probably miss more shots than I get because of that and I rarely use my phone camera.  Do you always have your camera?  Do you have a camera other than your phone?

A ferry rushes along.  The Seattle center and its iconic space needle watch in muted fascination.  Actually I was way out in West Seattle, enjoying the views, taking in the ambiance.  I love the NW as that’s where I’m originally from.  There’s so many places to go and explore, so many angles to view, as I suppose there are in most places.  Ferry’s are one of the constants of this part of the country.  And the space needle is like the empire state building or the eiffel tower; maybe not as old, but you certainly know where you are.
