It’s not from this year, but it certainly gives the impression of winter.  It seems like I should be sad for the rose, but I’m not.  It didn’t quite have enough time to fully blossom when the force of winter took over, and that’s OK.  I like winter too.  It lends a certain air of beauty to the scene, don’t you think.

I know it doesn’t really look that warm, but it is; certainly warmer than most of the northern hemisphere.  In Costa Rica we would walk the beach in front of our cabin and laugh.  How wonderful it is to be walking in the sand, carefree, not stuck in traffic somewhere, feeling the tropical sun on my back as it wanders in and out of the various cloud formations.  I know some of you are stuck in the cold and snow, and others just feel stuck.  We can always dream and even plan for a different scene.tropical-beach-2-1

Do your believe in Voodoo?  Whether you do or not, New Orleans sure congers thoughts and images of voodoo on my end; little old ladies sticking pins in small personalized dolls.  The unsuspecting victim wondering what hit him as he reels in sharp pain.  New Orleans, a perfect place for a voodoo doll shop.  I only wished it was open when I happened to stroll by.  I could use a doll on occasion.

I love a good swamp.  Maybe because I didn’t grow up with them.  I just love the growth in them; creepy, slimy, often stagnant, algae invested still water.  And the trees, so often covered with Spanish moss, crawling and extending its life down, down, down, seemingly reaching out toward the water.  Magnolia Plantation here, is quite close to Charleston, South Carolina and a fun place to hike around and explore, if you like a good swamp.

Winter is so awesome for going to the coast.  And finally it’s winter!  Wet, stormy, dark.  Often, we get a break in the weather and those are the best times for photography.  I don’t know what’s happening in your part of the world, but here in California it’s finally winter.  Let us rejoice! stormy-ocean-sunset-5-1

I took some baths with borax in them.  And, usually I go away, often to a desert, this time of year.  So, I thought I would kill two birds with one stone, so to speak.  Thus, borax in the desert.  Voila!  This is the notorious Badwater.  Covered with borax, it’s smack dab in the middle of Death Valley.  And what a great time to go in winter, too.  It’s pleasant out, but not hot.
