Sleeping is great, but waking before dawn and wandering around in the Sierra Nevada mountains at 11,000 feet is way better. I’d been up in the mountains for a few days and at my final destination of Summit Lake in the Big Pine Lakes basin in the eastern Sierra. I hiked up the hill where I knew the sun would be rising and just took it all in. It’s so quiet in the high Sierra. I was the only one at the lake. I looked down on Black Lake below. Beautiful!
