I was doing my best to get to Las Vegas as quickly as possible.  It’s just not so easy to do when I’m out-and-about, wandering, exploring, enjoying each and every little cubby hole of environment that I move through.  There’s always so much to see and explore.  I almost never get bored with where I find myself to be when I’m out with camera in hand.  If it starts to become work, I just pack up and move on, do something else, get another perspective.

Here, I was almost there, to the amazing Las Vegas where everything becomes another great photo op.  But…. I just had to stop here at Red Rocks Canyon just a few short miles west of Vegas.  Even though it was quite cloudy I took some time to wander around and take in the beauty before heading into the city and something completely different.

Seattle is very much a waterfront city.  Wandering around there at any time of day is a lot of fun, but I especially like the night time.  I was there last summer for a wedding and since our hotel was only 3 blocks from the water I broke away for an hour to do some exploring.

It’s not always like this.  If you go to Yosemite in late summer or fall as I often do, then you won’t see any water falling.  It also depends on how much snow falls in the upper elevations during the winter.  But, when there is an abundance of snow melt in the spring… Wow!  Yosemite Falls is a sight to behold; power and grace as one.  This image was taken in June after a particularly heavy winter snow year.  Water was flowing everywhere.  The falls were in their full, roaring, raging awesomeness.  Yosemite is so incredible!

Mostly I think of Arizona and the Southwest as dry, desert, hot, penetrating clear blue skies.  I was pleasantly surprised when I was there this January.  There were thick stormy looking clouds and even some rain.  Quite lovely!  The old Rosson house in downtown Phoenix blends in well with the ominousness of the sky.

My annual trip to the desert this year was fortunate.  To the Palm Springs area I went and I was there during some interesting, precipitous weather.  As the clouds were breaking up, exposing the fresh snow on the surrounding mountains I bolted from the comfort of my sisters new home and took off with camera trying to find an appropriate foreground.  The sun was not too far from hiding itself again behind clouds and then setting behind the mountains, so time was of the essence.  After driving a few minutes I spied this desert colored church.  Perfect.

Do you know how many Union Stations there are?  I don’t either but there are many.  LA, New York, Chicago to name a few.  But this one comes from Washington DC.  I’d been wandering around town all morning as I’m known to do; seeing where my eyes and legs take me; enjoying a warm late summer day.  There are so many iconic buildings and places to explore in DC that it can be overwhelming.  But, it’s mid day and I finally feel like stopping for a while and sitting.   What better place to kill two birds, so to speak, than in a large beautiful building, with hundreds of people, and a place to sit and have lunch right in the middle of it all?  A train station, of course.  This is one of the many views I had while lunching.

Wow!  Wandering along the Monterey Bay Coastal Trail is an incredible way to intimately commune with almost everything Monterey has to offer; beaches, the pacific ocean, shops and restaurants, people.  It was warm and beautiful when I started out, but being the beginning of March and right on the Pacific Ocean, the fog started rolling in about mid afternoon.  Though build in the 1980’s, the Monterey Bay Aquarium  was designed to replicate the old cannery’s that were busy here in earlier times.  By the time I got to the backside of the building , there was a wonderfully eerie ominousness trying to make its way inland, giving it that real old world feel.

I love going to the desert in the winter.  Often I’ll go to one of the great desert parks, but this time I went to Palm Desert and Phoenix.  Unfortunately my camera bag was stolen out of my car the morning I was leaving for home and with it many of the images I had captured over the days.  But, alas, life goes on and I did come back with some I stll had in the camera.  I’m happy to say that my camera was not in the bag at the time of theft.

I happened to be in Phoenix for 2 days of mostly cloudy weather.  I actually like that as it often makes for a more dramatic experience.  Here, I went over to Papago Park as the day was dawning.  The city skyline is quite a ways away from there, but never-the-less it is there in the flat expanse of the urban desert.

It’s spring again; at least here in California.  And that means that the mustard is in bloom.  Splashes of yellow, large and small, all around.  I grabbed my rusty old bike out of the barn, slung my camera bag over my shoulder and away I rode.  Less than a mile away there’s one of the big ones.  I had fun wandering around searching for good angles while the bees were buzzing for that yummy spring nectar.
